How I Developed Part3Prodigy to Simplify Your Journey
When I was navigating the whirlwind that is the Part 3 process, I constantly felt like I was playing catch-up. Balancing a demanding full-time job, endless PEDR logs, and the daunting task of picking and analysing the perfect case study left me perpetually overwhelmed. There were moments when I questioned whether I was even on the right track. Sound familiar?
If you’re nodding along, you’re not alone. The Part 3 process can feel like a marathon with no map. It’s a challenge that most of us face without much guidance, other than the vague reassurance that “everyone figures it out eventually.” That’s why I decided to create Part3Prodigy, a free 5-day email course designed to help aspiring architects like you start your Part 3 journey with clarity and confidence.
In this post, I want to share how Part3Prodigy came to life—from the frustrations that inspired it to the steps I took to ensure it addresses the real pain points Part 3 students face. Whether you’re on the verge of starting your Part 3 prep or knee-deep in the chaos, I hope this behind-the-scenes look inspires you to take the next step with a little less stress.
The Problem: Why Part 3 Can Feel Overwhelming
Let’s be real—preparing for your Part 3 is no small feat. You’re expected to master a mountain of information, juggle professional commitments, and somehow maintain a personal life. For me, the three biggest challenges were:
Balancing work and study
My 9-to-6 job often stretched to 8-to-8. Add commuting and dinner to the mix, and I was left with barely an hour, maybe two, of energy to focus on Part 3.
Understanding the ARB criteria and PEDR process
The criteria read like a foreign language when I first encountered them. Meanwhile, keeping my PEDR logs updated felt like a never-ending admin task with no immediate payoff.
Picking the right case study
Choosing a case study felt like betting on a horse without knowing the odds. I wasted weeks second-guessing my decision, worried that my choice would make or break my chances.
These challenges aren’t unique to me. Over the years, I’ve spoken to countless Part 3 students facing the same hurdles. And that’s when it hit me: what if I could take everything I learned from my own journey and create a resource to make Part 3 prep less stressful for others?
The Spark: Why I Created Part3Prodigy
The idea for Part3Prodigy came about organically. A few years ago, I started mentoring colleagues and peers who were beginning their Part 3 journey. It began with casual chats over coffee, where they’d ask questions about time management, PEDRs, or case studies.
Over time, I noticed that the same concerns kept cropping up:
“How do I find the time to study when I’m working full-time?”
“What’s the best way to approach my case study?”
“Am I even logging the right information in my PEDRs?”
These conversations became the foundation for Part3Prodigy. I realized that while I couldn’t mentor everyone one-on-one, I could create something scalable—a resource that anyone could access, no matter where they were or how busy their schedule was.
The Development Process: How Part3Prodigy Came to Life
Creating Part3Prodigy wasn’t an overnight process. I spent months refining the content to ensure it was both actionable and accessible. Here’s how it all came together:
1. Identifying Key Pain Points
I started by listing the most common challenges I’d faced and heard from others: time management, PEDR logs, case studies, and a general lack of clarity on where to start. This became the backbone of the course.
2. Researching Effective Strategies
Next, I dove into research. I looked at productivity frameworks (hello, time-blocking!), critical thinking techniques, and best practices for case study analysis. My goal was to condense the most useful strategies into bite-sized lessons that wouldn’t overwhelm busy professionals.
3. Structuring the Course
The 5-day email format felt like a no-brainer. It’s short enough to fit into anyone’s schedule but long enough to provide meaningful insights. Each day focuses on a specific area:
Day 1: Getting started with a clear plan.
Day 2: Mastering time management.
Day 3: Logging PEDRs like a pro.
Day 4: Picking and analysing your case study.
Day 5: Part 3 exam.
Day 6: Bonus resources
4. Testing and Refining
Before launching, I shared the course with a small group of colleagues and mentees to gather feedback. Their input was invaluable in fine-tuning the lessons and making them even more relevant.
